What to expect from your therapist and marriage counselor

Whether you meet in person in Voorhees, Marlton, or Cherry Hill, or choose to work online in New Jersey, the work stays focused. This is not a passive process, and it is not one-size-fits-all. You are not moved through a set formula. Sessions are built around what is actually happening in your life — and what needs to change.

Some people come in feeling stuck. Others are dealing with stress, relationship problems, or a lack of direction that has been building over time. Wherever you are starting, the goal is to understand what drives those patterns and begin shifting them more intentionally.

If procrastination has been a part of your life, we don't just talk about it.
We look at what is behind it — avoidance, fear, lack of structure — and begin to change how you approach your time and your decisions.

If you are considering a career change, starting a business, or advancing professionally, your focus becomes clear. In life coaching, we identify what is blocking progress and begin creating a realistic, actionable path.

If relationships have been difficult, we slow things down and look at how those patterns actually play out.
You begin to see how you communicate, how you react, and what may be getting in the way of stronger, more stable connections.

Changing your attitude and perspective

At some point, something begins to change. You start to recognize that you have more control than you may have been using. That shift is not dramatic. But it is often where things start to move in a different direction. One client described it this way:

Larry told me you’re in charge of your life and you can choose which direction to go. No one had ever said that to me before. I had never been taught that I had a choice. Dr. Cohen helped me take my life back.

The way we work

Therapy helps you understand and manage difficult emotions, while life coaching focuses more directly on direction, decisions, and forward movement. In both, the work is active and direct.

You begin to recognize patterns in your thinking that are not accurate or useful. You see how those patterns affect your behavior, and how your behavior shapes the outcomes in your life. At times, you will be challenged. Avoidance, loss of focus, and staying in familiar patterns are addressed directly.

At the same time, you begin to recognize opportunities that may have been easy to miss before.
You develop a clearer sense of direction and the ability to act on it. Over time, this creates more consistency in how you think, respond, and move through your life.

The environment

This is a working relationship. That matters.

You are given space to speak openly, without being judged or rushed.
At the same time, there is structure, focus, and accountability.

You are supported, but you are also expected to stay engaged in the process.

Change does not happen all at once.
It develops over time, as patterns become clearer and your responses become more intentional.

The goal is not just insight.
It is change that carries into your daily life, a change that is lasting and profound.
