Learn How to Create Life Changes
If you are reading this, you are likely thinking about seeing a therapist or a life coach. When new clients walk through our door, we say, “Great! You made it through the door.” Of course, when we greet new clients like this, we try to put them at ease. But there is truth in what we say. Getting in touch with us and coming in is often a challenging, anxiety-provoking experience.
We understand how difficult it is to start working with us. Forty years ago, I did the same when I started working with a therapist. If you are reading this and considering a therapist or life coach, I strongly encourage you to reach out to the professional you would like to work with.
If you didn’t think a therapist could help, I don’t think you’d be reading this. I remember meeting with a client years ago who asked if I thought his substance use was a problem. “Well,” I said, “if your substance use wasn’t a problem, I suspect you wouldn’t be meeting with me today.”
Now may be the time to work on life goals with a coach, alleviate depression or anxiety, or improve your marriage with your partner. If you're seeking contentment, happiness, and personal growth, I encourage you to work with a therapist or life coach.
In therapy, we provide psychodynamic psychotherapy and cognitive therapy within what is called a person-centered framework. This means that we work to provide a non-judgmental environment that allows you to change and grow. We accept you as you are. The focus of sessions is to help you change your life into what you imagine it to be.
We are not the ones who determine which direction to go. We work together to uncover what changes and goals you want to meet in life. We do not tell you what to do. You tell us what you’ve chosen to work on, and we help you to get there. If you are seeking treatment for depression or another mental health struggle, the goal is to lower the intensity of or resolve your emotional struggles.
How it Works
Therapy and coaching can help you move toward “a better life.” We create a safe, non-judgmental, confidential space that allows you to speak your truth—no matter what it is or how scared or ashamed you may feel about saying it.
Clients begin here - unpacking what they have been holding inside for years. Personal secrets can make you sick. Sometimes your secrets “come out sideways” like a leaky faucet, or in a passive-aggressive way, poisoning your relationships.
If you are working on meeting a goal, life coaching can help you identify the obstacles blocking your path and guide you through the necessary steps to achieve it. One step toward achieving the goal may include the treatment and resolution of a mental health problem. While working toward your goals in life coaching, you may choose to address specific issues in therapy.
If you are feeling depressed or highly anxious, you may have great difficulty achieving your life coaching goals without first resolving these mental health issues. If this is the case, resolving or reducing emotional struggles will be addressed in therapy. As all professionals at NJTLC are trained therapists and life coaches, we can work together on both your mental health and your coaching needs.
If you are suffering from a mental health problem such as depression or anxiety, we can help you understand how your emotional states are preventing you from meeting your goals. As therapists, we are listeners, guides, and educators. As life coaches, we help you assess your current life circumstances, choose your life direction, and discover the steps needed to achieve your goals.
We have witnessed people change their lives in almost miraculous ways. Together, we will work to move you towards greater happiness, contentment, and success. If you could witness what we have in therapy and life coaching, you would be amazed. To learn more, visit Reaching Life Goals and Who Are You - Really?
